Professor Kumar is Head of Discipline for Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Medicine and Senior Staff Specialist in Maternal & Fetal Medicine/Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital in Brisbane, Australia and co-lead of the Mothers, Babies and Women’s Health research theme at the Mater Research Institute-University of Queensland.
Prof Kumar is an accredited MFM subspecialist both in the UK and Australia. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Singapore, United Kingdom and Australia and has a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (UK) and Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists. He completed his subspecialist Fellowship in Maternal & Fetal Medicine at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital/Imperial College London. He is a visiting Professor at Imperial College London and adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology. His area of research is in fetal therapy, prediction of adverse perinatal outcomes and placental biomarkers. He has >130 publications and regularly supervisors higher degree students.
